Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. Social media platforms have become an integral part of daily life for many young people, offering opportunities for connectivity, self-expression, and entertainment. However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental well-being. This study will explore the relationship between social media usage patterns and various aspects of mental health, including self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and overall psychological well-being. A mixed-methods approach will be employed, combining quantitative surveys to gather data on social media habits and mental health indicators, along with qualitative interviews to provide deeper insights into the subjective experiences of teenagers. The research will involve a sample of teenagers aged 13-18 years, drawn from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to ensure a broad representation of experiences. Participants will be asked to report on their social media usage, including frequency, duration, and types of platforms used, as well as to complete standardized measures assessing mental health outcomes. Findings from this study are expected to contribute to our understanding of how social media impacts the mental health of teenagers, shedding light on both the positive and negative effects of online interactions. By examining the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes, this research aims to inform strategies for promoting healthy digital habits among young people and developing targeted interventions to support those at risk of negative mental health consequences. The results of this study are anticipated to have implications for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers, providing evidence-based insights into the complex interplay between social media and mental well-being. Ultimately, the goal of this research is to foster a more nuanced understanding of the role of social media in shaping adolescent mental health and to guide efforts to promote positive online experiences for young people.
