Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The study will focus on understanding how the use of social media platforms influences the mental well-being of teenagers. With the increasing prevalence of social media use among adolescents, concerns have been raised about its potential negative effects on mental health. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. The quantitative surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as the self-reported impact on mental health indicators such as stress, anxiety, and depression. The qualitative interviews will provide in-depth insights into the experiences and perceptions of adolescents regarding social media and mental health. The study will involve a sample of adolescents aged 13 to 18 years from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Participants will be recruited from schools and community centers, ensuring a varied representation of experiences and perspectives. Data analysis will involve both statistical techniques for the survey data and thematic analysis for the interview transcripts. The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing literature on the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes among adolescents. By exploring the experiences and perceptions of teenagers themselves, the study aims to provide valuable insights for parents, educators, and mental health professionals. The implications of this research are significant in addressing the potential impact of social media on adolescent mental health.
