Abstract
This study investigates the impact of social media usage on mental health among teenagers. With the increasing prevalence of social media platforms and the growing concerns about mental health issues among teenagers, it is crucial to understand the relationship between the two. The research aims to explore how different aspects of social media use, such as time spent online, types of platforms used, and interactions with others, influence the mental well-being of teenagers. To achieve this goal, a mixed-methods approach will be employed, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews. The quantitative surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media usage among teenagers, as well as their self-reported mental health status. Additionally, the surveys will gather data on the types of social media platforms preferred by teenagers and the nature of their interactions on these platforms. The qualitative interviews will provide a deeper understanding of the experiences and perceptions of teenagers regarding social media use and its impact on their mental health. Through open-ended questions, participants will be encouraged to share their thoughts, feelings, and personal stories related to social media and mental well-being. The qualitative data will be analyzed to identify common themes and patterns, offering insights into the complexities of the relationship between social media and mental health. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing literature on social media and mental health by providing empirical evidence from the perspective of teenagers. By examining both the quantitative and qualitative data, this research aims to offer a comprehensive understanding of how social media usage influences the mental health outcomes of teenagers. The results may have implications for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers in developing strategies to promote healthy social media habits and support the mental well-being of teenagers. Overall, this research seeks to shed light on the complexities of social media use in the context of teenage mental health, highlighting both the positive and negative aspects of online interactions.
