Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. In recent years, social media use has become increasingly prevalent among teenagers, with platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok being among the most popular. While social media offers numerous benefits, such as facilitating communication and fostering connections with others, there is growing concern about its potential negative effects on mental well-being, particularly among young people. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach to examine the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes in adolescents. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys administered to a sample of adolescents, assessing their social media usage patterns and mental health status. Qualitative data will be gathered through in-depth interviews with a subset of participants to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences and perceptions regarding social media and mental health. The research will focus on several key areas, including the impact of social media on self-esteem and body image, the role of cyberbullying and online harassment in affecting mental health, and the potential benefits of social media in providing social support and fostering positive relationships. By exploring these factors, the study aims to provide valuable insights into the complex interplay between social media use and adolescent mental health. The findings of this research have the potential to inform interventions and strategies aimed at promoting positive mental health outcomes among adolescents in the digital age. By better understanding the ways in which social media can influence mental well-being, policymakers, educators, and mental health professionals can work towards creating a more supportive and healthy online environment for young people. Overall, this research project seeks to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the impact of social media on adolescent mental health and to offer practical recommendations for promoting the well-being of young people in an increasingly digital world. By shedding light on this important issue, the study aims to empower individuals, families, and communities to navigate the challenges posed by social media in a way that is conducive to positive mental health outcomes.
