Abstract
The research project focused on investigating the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. The study utilized a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. The findings revealed a significant correlation between social media usage and mental health issues, including increased levels of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem among teenagers. Moreover, the research identified specific social media platforms and usage patterns that were more likely to contribute to negative mental health outcomes. The qualitative interviews provided valuable insights into the subjective experiences of teenagers, highlighting the pressure to present an idealized self-image online and the negative effects of cyberbullying and comparison with peers. The study also explored potential protective factors, such as positive online interactions and social support networks, that could mitigate the negative impact of social media on mental health. Recommendations were made for parents, educators, and mental health professionals to promote healthy social media use among teenagers, including setting boundaries, fostering open communication, and providing resources for coping with online challenges.
