Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of daily life for many individuals, especially among the younger population. However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental well-being. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the subject. A sample of adolescents aged 13-18 will be recruited to participate in the research. The quantitative surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, types of platforms used, and self-reported mental health indicators such as anxiety and depression levels. In addition, qualitative interviews will be conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the adolescents' experiences with social media and how it may influence their mental health. The interviews will explore themes such as social comparison, cyberbullying, FOMO (fear of missing out), and the role of social support online. The research aims to provide insights into the complex relationship between social media and mental health among adolescents. By examining both quantitative and qualitative data, the study seeks to identify patterns and themes that can shed light on the potential risks and benefits of social media use in this population. The findings of the research will contribute to the existing literature on social media and mental health, providing valuable information for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers. Understanding the impact of social media on adolescents' mental health is crucial for developing effective interventions and strategies to promote positive online experiences and well-being. Overall, this research project addresses an important gap in the current knowledge regarding the effects of social media on mental health among adolescents. By exploring the experiences and perceptions of young individuals, the study aims to generate meaningful insights that can inform future research and practical interventions in this area.
