Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into library services has brought about significant changes in the way libraries operate and provide services to their users. This research project aims to explore the challenges faced by libraries in acquiring and applying ICT to improve their services, as well as the prospects that ICT offers for the future of library services. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject. The challenges faced by libraries in acquiring ICT for their services include financial constraints, lack of technical expertise among library staff, resistance to change, and inadequate infrastructure. These challenges hinder the effective implementation of ICT in library services and limit the potential benefits that ICT can offer. However, libraries that successfully overcome these challenges stand to benefit greatly from the application of ICT in their services. On the other hand, the prospects of applying ICT to library services are vast and promising. ICT can enhance access to information resources, improve user experience, facilitate resource sharing among libraries, and streamline library operations. Additionally, ICT enables libraries to offer innovative services such as virtual reference services, digital repositories, and online cataloging systems, which enhance user satisfaction and engagement. This research project also explores the impact of ICT on library staff and users. It examines how the adoption of ICT influences the roles and responsibilities of library staff, as well as the expectations and preferences of library users. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for libraries to effectively leverage ICT for the benefit of both staff and users. Overall, this research project sheds light on the challenges and prospects of acquiring and applying ICT to library services. By identifying the barriers to ICT integration and highlighting the potential benefits of ICT, this study provides valuable insights for libraries seeking to enhance their services through technology. Ultimately, the successful integration of ICT into library services has the potential to transform libraries into dynamic and user-centric information hubs that meet the evolving needs of their communities.
