The advent of social media platforms has revolutionized the way individuals communicate and interact with one another in the digital age. This thesis explores the impact of social media on language use and communication patterns, aiming to provide a comprehensive analysis of how these platforms influence our linguistic behaviors and communication practices. Through an in-depth examination of existing literature, this study delves into the various ways in which social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others have reshaped the landscape of communication. Chapter One sets the foundation for the thesis by introducing the topic, providing a background of the study, articulating the problem statement, outlining the objectives, discussing the limitations and scope of the study, highlighting its significance, and presenting the structure of the thesis. Additionally, key terms relevant to the study are defined to facilitate a clear understanding of the concepts discussed throughout the thesis. Chapter Two comprises a comprehensive literature review that critically examines existing research on the impact of social media on language use and communication patterns. The review encompasses ten key themes that have emerged from the literature, including the influence of social media on language evolution, the role of social media in shaping linguistic norms, the impact of social media on written communication, and the implications for interpersonal relationships.
