Abstract
This research project focuses on analyzing the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The study aims to investigate the relationship between social media usage and various aspects of mental health, such as self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and overall psychological well-being. A mixed-methods approach will be employed, including both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with adolescents. The quantitative data will be analyzed using statistical methods to identify correlations between social media use and mental health outcomes. The qualitative data will provide insights into the lived experiences and perceptions of adolescents regarding social media and its effects on their mental health. The research will also explore the potential mechanisms through which social media influences mental health, such as social comparison, cyberbullying, fear of missing out (FOMO), and online harassment. By understanding these mechanisms, the study aims to provide valuable insights into how social media platforms can be designed and regulated to promote positive mental health outcomes among adolescents. Additionally, the research will investigate the role of parental involvement and digital literacy in mitigating the negative effects of social media on adolescent mental health. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of research on social media and mental health by providing a comprehensive analysis of the factors that influence the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes among adolescents. The results will have implications for policymakers, educators, mental health professionals, and parents in developing strategies to support adolescents in navigating the digital landscape in a healthy and safe manner. Ultimately, this research aims to raise awareness about the potential risks associated with excessive or harmful social media use and to promote the development of interventions and resources to foster positive mental health among adolescents in the digital age.
