Abstract
Co-operative enterprises play a crucial role in fostering sustainable development in rural communities by promoting economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability. This thesis investigates the impact of co-operative enterprises on sustainable development in rural communities, with a focus on understanding the mechanisms through which co-operatives contribute to the advancement of these communities. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses to provide a comprehensive examination of the subject matter. The first chapter of the thesis provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, research objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and the structure of the thesis. Chapter two conducts a thorough literature review, examining existing research on co-operative enterprises and their role in sustainable development. The literature review highlights the various ways in which co-operatives can positively impact rural communities and contribute to their long-term growth and prosperity.
