Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Waste management is a critical issue faced by urban areas worldwide, including Enugu metropolis in Nigeria. This study aims to investigate the strategies, problems, and prospects of refuse management in Enugu metropolis. The research utilized a case study approach, collecting data through surveys, interviews, and field observations. The findings reveal that Enugu metropolis faces significant challenges in refuse management, including inadequate waste collection services, poor waste segregation practices, and limited recycling facilities. Lack of public awareness and participation further exacerbates the problem, leading to widespread littering and environmental pollution. Various strategies are proposed to improve refuse management in Enugu metropolis. These include enhancing waste collection services, implementing proper waste segregation practices, promoting recycling initiatives, and increasing public education and awareness campaigns. Collaboration between government agencies, private sector stakeholders, and local communities is crucial for the successful implementation of these strategies. Despite the challenges, there are promising prospects for improving refuse management in Enugu metropolis. The growing awareness of environmental issues and the increasing emphasis on sustainable development provide opportunities for innovative solutions to waste management problems. By adopting a holistic approach that integrates technological advancements, community engagement, and policy interventions, Enugu metropolis can work towards achieving a cleaner and more sustainable environment. In conclusion, the study underscores the urgent need for effective refuse management strategies in Enugu metropolis. By addressing the existing problems and capitalizing on the prospects for improvement, the city can enhance its waste management practices and contribute to a healthier and more environmentally friendly urban environment. This research provides valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, environmentalists, and other stakeholders involved in waste management efforts in Enugu metropolis and similar urban areas.

Thesis Overview

1.1              INTRODUCTION

This work was obligated to present in one. The fundamental and practical information in the filed of the comparative analysis of the strength of concrete made from various aggregate which may be useful to people involve in civil and structural engineering and particularly, those that found pleasure in the design and related structure.

Due to high cost of sand in the market the comparative analysis of strength of concrete made from various aggregate play an important role in cost of transportation, thus the cost of material.

Enugu state case a case study has quite an abundance of washed gravel, which are usually picked out from stream, black and surface gravel present in every part of the state though, in many construction sites, mostly within Enugu metropolis crushed/granites stones got from Abalikik and Nkalagu are mostly used, in the rural areas, washed gravel are mostly used because of its availability and cheapness compared to crouched stones.

The aim of this project therefore, is to compare the compressive strength produced b those washed, black, surface and granite stone got from different areas and to see if there is any way, these coarse aggregate can be interchanged during construction especially when her is shortage of any one of the materials.
