The retail industry plays a significant role in the global economy, and the adoption of sustainable supply chain management practices has become a critical focus for organizations seeking to enhance their competitiveness while minimizing environmental impacts. This thesis investigates the implementation of sustainable supply chain management practices in the retail industry through a case study approach. The primary objective is to analyze the challenges, opportunities, and outcomes associated with integrating sustainability principles into supply chain operations within a retail context. The study begins with a comprehensive review of relevant literature on sustainable supply chain management, focusing on key concepts such as green sourcing, reverse logistics, and stakeholder engagement. Drawing on ten key items from the literature review, the theoretical framework is developed to guide the investigation. Chapter three outlines the research methodology, including data collection methods, sampling strategies, and analysis techniques employed in the case study. The research findings are presented in chapter four, providing an in-depth discussion of the implementation of sustainable supply chain management practices within the selected retail organization. Key themes explored include the integration of sustainability criteria into supplier selection processes, the implementation of green logistics initiatives, and the engagement of stakeholders in sustainability initiatives. The chapter also examines the challenges faced by the organization in adopting sustainable practices and the strategies employed to address these challenges. In the concluding chapter, the study summarizes the key findings and implications for theory and practice. The significance of the research is discussed, highlighting the potential benefits of sustainable supply chain management for retail organizations, including improved resource efficiency, reduced costs, and enhanced brand reputation. Recommendations for future research and practical implications for retail managers are also provided.
