Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the problems faced by new secretaries in Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri. Secretaries play a crucial role in the efficient functioning of organizations by handling administrative tasks, managing communication, and providing support to staff and management. However, new secretaries often encounter challenges as they navigate their roles in the workplace. This study will focus on identifying and analyzing the specific issues that new secretaries face in the context of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri in order to provide insights and recommendations for improving their work experiences. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews with new secretaries, experienced secretaries, and management staff to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by new secretaries. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys distributed to a sample of new secretaries to gather statistical information on the frequency and severity of the identified problems. The findings of the study are expected to reveal a range of issues that new secretaries encounter in their roles at Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri. These may include difficulties in adapting to the organizational culture, lack of training and support, inadequate resources, communication challenges, and role ambiguity. By identifying and understanding these problems, the study aims to provide recommendations for addressing these issues and improving the working conditions for new secretaries in the institution. The results of this research will have practical implications for the management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri and other similar organizations. By addressing the challenges faced by new secretaries, organizations can improve employee satisfaction, productivity, and overall organizational effectiveness. The findings can also inform the development of training programs, support systems, and policies to better prepare and support new secretaries in their roles. Overall, this research project will contribute to the existing literature on secretarial work and organizational communication by shedding light on the specific problems faced by new secretaries in a unique institutional context. The insights gained from this study can inform future research and practice in the field of office administration and support the development of strategies to enhance the working experiences of new secretaries in Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri and beyond.
