Abstract
This research project aims to conduct a comparative study of human resource management practices in the public sector and private organizations in Nigeria, focusing on the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and Zenith Bank Plc. The study seeks to analyze and compare the HRM practices, policies, and strategies employed by these two organizations to understand the differences and similarities in managing human resources in the public and private sectors. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Interviews, surveys, and document analysis will be used to gather data on HRM practices such as recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, and employee relations. The data will be analyzed using thematic analysis and statistical techniques to identify patterns, trends, and differences between the public and private sector organizations. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the HRM practices in the public and private sectors in Nigeria. By comparing the practices of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and Zenith Bank Plc, the research aims to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of HRM practices in each sector, as well as areas for improvement. The study also seeks to explore the impact of organizational culture, government regulations, and market competition on HRM practices in the public and private sectors. The research is significant as it contributes to the existing literature on HRM practices in Nigeria and provides practical recommendations for enhancing HRM practices in both public and private sector organizations. The study may also offer insights for policymakers, HR professionals, and organizational leaders to improve HRM practices, promote employee engagement and productivity, and enhance organizational performance. Overall, this research project addresses an important gap in the literature by conducting a comparative study of HRM practices in the public and private sectors in Nigeria. The findings are expected to have implications for theory, practice, and policy, shedding light on the factors influencing HRM practices in different sectors and contributing to the overall understanding of human resource management in Nigeria.

Thesis Overview

This research work seeks to compare the practice of Human Resources Management in Private and Public Sector Organisation in Nigeria. Here, Zenith Bank and Ministry of Labour & Productivity Sector respectively. From the data collected, we discovered that as much as human resources management practices appeared to be the much needed solution to the organisation’s problem, much is still desired in the management cadre of these establishments. In order to reap the full benefits of human resources management practice, organisation have to embrace every bit of it for maximum efficiency and effectiveness. Training and development made a lot of contribution towards the growth of organisations. However for clearer understanding, the data were presented in tables are frequency distribution and analyzed with frequency and percentage. The Z test was used in testing the hypotheses. The major findings of the study reveal that; private and public organisations have human resources management policies. Both have difference in employment procedures as well as training and development programmes. They also have slight differences in compensation policies and disciplinary measures. Workers in both types of organisations are unionized. Public sector organisations pay retirees pensions while the other do not.
