Abstract
Urban regeneration is a critical aspect of sustainable city development, aiming to revitalize urban areas to meet the evolving needs of communities and enhance overall quality of life. This thesis explores the design of sustainable multi-functional public spaces as a key strategy for urban regeneration. The study investigates how the integration of various functions within public spaces can contribute to the revitalization of urban areas, promote social interaction, environmental sustainability, and economic development. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two offers a comprehensive literature review, examining existing theories, concepts, and case studies related to sustainable public space design and urban regeneration. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study. It discusses the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, ethical considerations, and limitations of the methodology. The chapter also presents the theoretical framework guiding the research process. In Chapter Four, the findings of the study are discussed in detail. This chapter presents the analysis of data collected through interviews, surveys, observations, and case studies. The results highlight the benefits of sustainable multi-functional public spaces in urban regeneration, including improved social cohesion, environmental sustainability, economic growth, and cultural enrichment. Chapter Five concludes the thesis by summarizing the key findings, discussing their implications for urban planning and design practice, and offering recommendations for future research and practice in the field of sustainable public space design and urban regeneration.
