Abstract
This thesis presents an in-depth investigation into sustainable design strategies for urban affordable housing developments. The pressing need for affordable housing in urban areas, coupled with the growing concerns about environmental sustainability, has prompted the exploration of innovative design approaches that address both affordability and sustainability. The research aims to identify and evaluate sustainable design strategies that can be applied to urban affordable housing projects, with a focus on enhancing environmental performance, social equity, and economic viability. The study begins with an examination of the current state of affordable housing in urban areas, highlighting the challenges and opportunities for integrating sustainable design principles into housing development projects. Through a comprehensive literature review, ten key sustainable design strategies are identified and analyzed in the context of urban affordable housing. These strategies encompass a range of approaches, including passive design techniques, renewable energy systems, green building materials, and community engagement initiatives. The research methodology section outlines the approach adopted to investigate sustainable design strategies for urban affordable housing developments. The methodology includes a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as case studies, surveys, interviews, and design simulations. The research process involves studying existing affordable housing projects that have implemented sustainable design strategies, gathering feedback from stakeholders, and conducting performance evaluations to assess the effectiveness of these strategies.
