Abstract
This thesis delves into the intersection of archaeology and tourism, focusing on investigating the impact of archaeological sites on the development of cultural tourism. Archaeological sites stand as tangible links to past civilizations, offering unique insights into historical narratives and cultural heritage. The fusion of archaeology with tourism presents opportunities for sustainable development, economic growth, and cultural preservation. This study aims to explore how the presence of archaeological sites influences cultural tourism development, examining the interactions between historical preservation, tourism management, visitor experiences, and community engagement. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, integrating qualitative data from interviews, surveys, and observations with quantitative analyses of tourist trends, economic indicators, and site visitation statistics. Chapter One sets the foundation by introducing the research background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and defining key terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review encompassing ten key themes related to archaeology, tourism, heritage management, visitor motivations, sustainability practices, and destination branding. Chapter Three details the research methodology, including the research design, sampling techniques, data collection procedures, and analytical tools. It further explores ethical considerations, limitations, and the validity and reliability of the study. Chapter Four dives into a detailed discussion of the findings, highlighting the impact of archaeological sites on cultural tourism development from various perspectives. This chapter elucidates visitor perceptions, economic benefits, community involvement, preservation challenges, and best practices for site management.
