Thesis Abstract

Abstract
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has gained popularity in recent years as an efficient and time-effective exercise approach that can lead to significant improvements in cardiovascular fitness and metabolic health. However, research on the effects of HIIT specifically on skeletal muscle adaptations in young adults is still limited. This thesis aimed to investigate the impact of HIIT on skeletal muscle adaptations in young adults and explore the underlying mechanisms involved. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and the structure of the thesis. The chapter also includes definitions of key terms to establish a clear understanding of the research context. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review on HIIT, skeletal muscle adaptations, and the physiological responses to exercise training. Ten key themes emerged from the literature review, including the effects of HIIT on muscle fiber composition, mitochondrial biogenesis, and muscle hypertrophy. Chapter 3 details the research methodology employed in this study. Eight components are discussed, including the study design, participant recruitment criteria, HIIT protocol, measurements of skeletal muscle adaptations, data analysis methods, ethical considerations, and potential limitations of the methodology. Chapter 4 presents a detailed discussion of the findings obtained from the study. The results of the research are analyzed and interpreted in relation to existing literature, highlighting the impact of HIIT on skeletal muscle adaptations in young adults. The discussion explores the implications of the findings and their relevance to exercise prescription and training programs. Chapter 5 provides a conclusion and summary of the thesis, summarizing the key findings, implications for practice, and recommendations for future research. The conclusion reflects on the significance of the study in advancing our understanding of the effects of HIIT on skeletal muscle adaptations in young adults and its potential applications in improving overall health and fitness. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the effects of HIIT on skeletal muscle adaptations in young adults. The findings of this study have implications for exercise professionals, athletes, and individuals seeking to optimize their training programs for skeletal muscle enhancement. Further research in this area is warranted to explore the long-term effects of HIIT on skeletal muscle adaptations and to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying these physiological changes.
