Abstract
This thesis explores the utilization of mobile technology to enhance agricultural extension services in rural communities. Agricultural extension plays a crucial role in disseminating information and providing support to farmers, thereby contributing to increased productivity and sustainable agricultural practices. However, traditional extension approaches face challenges such as limited reach, high costs, and inefficiencies. Mobile technology offers a promising solution to overcome these challenges by providing a platform for delivering timely and targeted agricultural information to farmers. The study begins by providing an overview of the background of agricultural extension, highlighting its importance in rural development. It identifies the problem of limited access to extension services in rural areas and the need for innovative solutions to improve service delivery. The objectives of the study are to explore the potential of mobile technology in enhancing agricultural extension services, identify the limitations of current extension approaches, and assess the scope and significance of integrating mobile technology into extension programs. A comprehensive literature review is conducted to examine previous studies on the use of mobile technology in agricultural extension. The review covers topics such as the benefits of mobile technology in agriculture, challenges and opportunities in mobile extension services, and best practices for designing and implementing mobile-based extension programs. Key themes include the role of mobile apps, SMS services, and interactive voice response systems in providing agricultural information to farmers.
