Abstract
This thesis explores the utilization of mobile technology for enhancing agricultural extension services in rural communities. The rapid advancement of mobile technology offers great potential to improve access to information, knowledge sharing, and communication channels for farmers in remote areas. The study investigates the effectiveness of mobile technology as a tool for disseminating agricultural information, providing training, and facilitating communication between farmers and extension agents. The research begins with a comprehensive review of the existing literature on agricultural extension services, mobile technology applications in agriculture, and the challenges faced by rural communities in accessing extension services. The methodology chapter outlines the research design, data collection methods, and analysis techniques employed in this study. Data was collected through surveys, interviews, and field observations to assess the impact of mobile technology on agricultural extension services in rural communities. The findings chapter presents the results of the study, highlighting the benefits and limitations of utilizing mobile technology for agricultural extension services. The analysis reveals that mobile technology has the potential to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of extension services by providing timely information, expert advice, and market linkages to farmers. However, challenges such as limited network coverage, digital literacy, and affordability of mobile devices hinder the widespread adoption of these technologies in rural areas. In the concluding chapter, the study emphasizes the importance of addressing these challenges to maximize the benefits of mobile technology for agricultural extension services. Recommendations are provided for policymakers, extension agencies, and technology providers to promote the adoption and use of mobile technology in rural communities. The thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the role of mobile technology in enhancing agricultural extension services and offers insights for future research in this field.
