Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the impact of social media usage on mental health among adolescents. A sample of 500 adolescents aged 13-18 participated in the research. Data was collected through self-report questionnaires assessing social media usage patterns and mental health indicators such as depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. The results indicated a significant relationship between excessive social media use and poor mental health outcomes. Specifically, adolescents who reported spending more time on social media platforms showed higher levels of depression and anxiety, and lower self-esteem compared to those who used social media less frequently. Furthermore, the study found that the type of content consumed on social media, such as comparison with peers, cyberbullying experiences, and exposure to negative news, played a role in exacerbating mental health issues. These findings highlight the importance of promoting healthy social media habits among adolescents and providing support mechanisms to mitigate the negative effects on mental well-being. Future research should delve deeper into the underlying mechanisms through which social media influences mental health and explore potential interventions to foster positive online experiences for young individuals.
