Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media platforms have become an integral part of daily life for many young individuals, and concerns have been raised regarding their effect on mental well-being. This study will explore the relationship between social media usage patterns, such as time spent online and types of content consumed, and various aspects of mental health, including self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and loneliness. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the topic. The survey will assess adolescents' social media habits, perceived benefits and drawbacks, and self-reported mental health indicators. Additionally, in-depth interviews will provide a deeper understanding of the subjective experiences and perceptions of social media's influence on mental health. The research will involve a sample of adolescents aged 13-18 years from diverse backgrounds to capture a wide range of perspectives. Data analysis will include statistical techniques to identify correlations between social media usage and mental health outcomes, as well as thematic analysis of qualitative data to uncover underlying themes and narratives. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing literature on the subject by shedding light on the nuanced relationship between social media and mental health in adolescence. By examining both quantitative and qualitative data, this research aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how social media impacts various aspects of mental well-being among young individuals. Ultimately, the results of this study may have implications for mental health interventions and social media usage guidelines targeted at adolescents. By identifying specific patterns of social media use that are associated with positive or negative mental health outcomes, this research could inform strategies to promote healthier online behaviors and support adolescents in navigating the digital landscape more effectively.
