Abstract
This research project investigates the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. The study aims to explore the relationship between social media usage and various aspects of mental health, including self-esteem, body image, anxiety, depression, and overall psychological well-being. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized to gather data from a diverse sample of teenagers, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups. The research will analyze the frequency and duration of social media use among teenagers and examine how different platforms and activities on social media may influence their mental health. Factors such as comparison with others, cyberbullying, fear of missing out (FOMO), and social isolation will be considered in understanding the mechanisms through which social media can impact mental health. Quantitative data will be collected through online surveys to assess the extent of social media use and its correlation with mental health indicators. Qualitative data from interviews and focus groups will provide in-depth insights into teenagers' experiences, perceptions, and attitudes regarding social media and mental health. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the effects of social media on adolescent mental health. By identifying the potential risks and benefits associated with social media use, this research aims to provide valuable information for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers to support teenagers in navigating the digital world more safely and healthily. The implications of the research may inform the development of interventions and guidelines to promote positive online behaviors and mitigate negative consequences on teenagers' mental health. Understanding the nuances of how social media impacts different aspects of mental health can help in designing targeted strategies to enhance digital literacy, resilience, and well-being among teenagers.
