Abstract
The research project focuses on examining the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of modern society, especially among young people. The study aims to explore how the use of social media platforms influences the mental well-being of adolescents, considering both the positive and negative aspects. The research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A sample of adolescents aged 13-18 will be recruited from different schools and communities to participate in the study. The quantitative surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as the types of platforms used. Participants will also complete standardized mental health assessments to measure indicators such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. In addition to the surveys, qualitative interviews will be conducted to gain deeper insights into the experiences and perceptions of adolescents regarding social media and mental health. The interviews will explore how social media affects their mood, relationships, self-image, and overall well-being. Participants will be encouraged to share both positive and negative experiences related to their social media usage. The data collected from both the surveys and interviews will be analyzed to identify patterns and correlations between social media use and mental health outcomes. The study aims to determine whether there is a significant relationship between these variables and to understand the mechanisms through which social media influences adolescent mental health. The findings of this research project are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the impact of social media on mental health, particularly among adolescents. By gaining a better understanding of this relationship, mental health professionals, educators, parents, and policymakers can develop more informed strategies to support young people in navigating the digital world safely and healthily. Overall, this research project seeks to shed light on the complex interactions between social media and mental health in the adolescent population. By exploring both the positive and negative effects of social media use, the study aims to provide valuable insights that can inform interventions and policies aimed at promoting the well-being of young people in the digital age.
