Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The research project aimed to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. A mixed-methods approach was utilized to gather data from a sample of 300 adolescents aged 13-18 years. The study found that there is a significant relationship between social media usage and mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem among adolescents. Quantitative data revealed that heavy social media use was associated with higher levels of anxiety and depression, while qualitative data provided insights into the specific ways in which social media influenced adolescents' self-perception and emotional well-being. The findings suggest that social media can have both positive and negative effects on adolescents' mental health, depending on factors such as the type of content consumed, the amount of time spent on social media, and individual vulnerabilities. Recommendations for promoting positive mental health outcomes among adolescents include promoting digital literacy, encouraging healthy online habits, and fostering open communication about social media use.
