Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. With the increasing prevalence of social media usage among the youth, concerns have been raised regarding its potential effects on mental well-being. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. The quantitative aspect of the research will involve administering standardized questionnaires to a sample of adolescents to assess their social media usage patterns and mental health status. Various psychological measures will be used to evaluate aspects such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and loneliness in relation to social media activities. Statistical analyses will be conducted to identify any significant correlations or associations between social media use and mental health outcomes. In addition to the quantitative data, qualitative interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to gain deeper insights into their personal experiences and perceptions regarding social media and mental health. These interviews will provide valuable qualitative data on the emotional impact of social media, the role of online interactions in shaping self-image and self-worth, as well as the potential benefits and drawbacks of social media use on mental health. The research aims to explore the complex interplay between social media engagement and mental health outcomes among adolescents. By combining quantitative and qualitative methods, the study seeks to provide a more holistic understanding of the subject matter. The findings from this research have the potential to inform interventions and strategies aimed at promoting positive mental health in young people in the digital age. Overall, this research project addresses a significant gap in the existing literature by offering a comprehensive investigation into the relationship between social media use and mental health among adolescents. The study's findings are expected to contribute to the ongoing discourse on the impacts of digital technology on youth well-being and may have practical implications for mental health professionals, educators, and policymakers working with young populations.
