Abstract
The research investigates the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media platforms have become an integral part of daily life for adolescents, shaping their communication, social interactions, and self-perception. However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health outcomes, such as anxiety, depression, and body image dissatisfaction. This study aims to contribute to the existing body of research by examining the relationship between social media usage patterns and mental health indicators among adolescents. A mixed-methods approach will be employed to gather data from a sample of adolescents aged 13-18. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys assessing social media usage habits, mental health symptoms, and self-esteem levels. Additionally, qualitative data will be obtained through in-depth interviews to explore the subjective experiences and perceptions of adolescents regarding social media and its impact on their mental well-being. The analysis will focus on identifying patterns of social media use that are associated with adverse mental health outcomes, as well as potential protective factors that may mitigate these effects. By integrating quantitative and qualitative findings, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay between social media and adolescent mental health. The results of this research have the potential to inform interventions and strategies aimed at promoting healthy social media use and enhancing mental health outcomes among adolescents. Overall, this study seeks to address the gap in existing literature by exploring the nuanced relationship between social media and mental health in the context of adolescent development. By adopting a mixed-methods approach, the research aims to capture the multifaceted nature of this relationship and provide valuable insights for practitioners, educators, and policymakers working with adolescents. Ultimately, the findings of this study may contribute to the development of evidence-based guidelines and interventions to support adolescents in navigating the digital landscape and promoting positive mental health outcomes.
