Abstract
The research aims to investigate the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity in developing countries, with a specific focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Climate change is increasingly recognized as a major challenge facing agriculture, particularly in regions where smallholder farmers rely heavily on rain-fed agriculture. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of historical climate data with qualitative interviews and surveys with farmers in selected regions. The quantitative analysis will involve examining trends in temperature and precipitation patterns over the past decades to identify potential changes that may have affected agricultural productivity. This analysis will be complemented by interviews and surveys with farmers to understand their perceptions of climate change, its impacts on their farming practices, and their adaptation strategies. The research will also explore the role of government policies and interventions in supporting farmers to adapt to climate change. By examining the effectiveness of existing policies and programs, the study aims to provide insights into how governments can better support smallholder farmers in the face of changing climatic conditions. Additionally, the research will assess the potential for climate-smart agriculture practices to enhance resilience and productivity in the agricultural sector. Overall, the findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing literature on the impact of climate change on agriculture in developing countries, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. By combining quantitative analysis with qualitative insights from farmers and policymakers, the research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change in the agricultural sector. The results of this study can inform policy decisions aimed at building climate resilience and ensuring food security for smallholder farmers in the region.
