Thesis Abstract
Abstract
The Nigerian pension scheme has undergone significant restructuring in recent years, particularly in Enugu State. This study aims to examine the impact and implications of the restructuring of the pension scheme in Enugu State, focusing on various aspects such as financial sustainability, retirees' welfare, regulatory framework, and overall effectiveness of the pension system. Through a comprehensive analysis of data collected from pensioners, government officials, and relevant stakeholders, this research seeks to provide insights into the challenges faced by the pension system in Enugu State post-restructuring. By utilizing both qualitative and quantitative research methods, the study will assess the level of compliance with the new pension regulations, the adequacy of pension funds, and the timeliness of pension payments to retirees. Furthermore, this study will investigate the perceptions of retirees regarding the restructured pension scheme, examining their satisfaction levels, concerns, and suggestions for improvement. By understanding the experiences and opinions of pensioners, the research aims to highlight the practical implications of the restructuring on the lives of beneficiaries and identify areas that require further attention or intervention. In addition, the regulatory framework governing the pension system in Enugu State will be critically evaluated to determine its effectiveness in ensuring transparency, accountability, and sustainability. By examining the legal provisions, regulatory practices, and enforcement mechanisms, the study will assess whether the current framework adequately protects the interests of pensioners and promotes the long-term viability of the pension scheme. Overall, this research seeks to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on pension reform in Nigeria by offering a case study of Enugu State and highlighting the specific challenges and opportunities encountered in the restructuring process. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights for policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders involved in pension management, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the efficiency, equity, and sustainability of the Nigerian pension system.
